Project objectives:

In collaboration with colleagues at icddr,b, we are combining mathematical modelling and field-based research to identify drivers of Japanese encephalitis virus transmission in Bangladesh. Through a better understanding of the transmission system we will be able to assess control strategies that complement human vaccination. We also aim to be able to identify areas of highest risk, which could help inform targeted vaccination.

         Objective 1

Develop mechanistic models to identify potential drivers of JEV epidemics in
areas with high cattle density

Objective 3

Quantify the potential impact of alternative interventions on JEV transmission

Objective 2

Determine the relative contribution of alternative hosts to transmission and test
model-based predictions of JEV transmission risk
